Our Purpose

The purpose of MNHTTF, and its accompanying listerv Minnesota Sex Trafficking Prevention Network (MNSTPN), is to engage and equip communities across the state with policy and education aimed at preventing human trafficking and exploitation. MNHTTF multidisciplinary membership includes governmental and nongovernmental agencies as well as community-based groups and people.

MNHTTF is coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Health Sexual Violence Prevention Program and the Minnesota Department of Health Safe Harbor Program.

MNHTTF does not coordinate or participate in law enforcement investigations of human trafficking cases.

History

MNHTTF was established in 2006 by state legislation (Minnesota Statute § 299A.79). MNHTTF has brought together stakeholders from across the state to address human trafficking. The 2006 legislation establishing MNHTTF sunset in 2011. At that time, the Minnesota Department of Health Sexual Violence Prevention Program began convening and coordinating MNHTTF.

MNHTTF meets quarterly and has grown from an original group of 22 members to well over 1,000. Professionals engaged in anti-human trafficking efforts, survivors of human trafficking, and concerned community members looking to make a difference continue to participate. Members attend meetings to stay up-to-date on efforts to improve Minnesota’s response to victims of human trafficking, learn new strategies to prevent human trafficking, and connect with others across the state.

MNHTTF provides and identifies experts and resources for members, and supports strong legislation and anti-trafficking efforts around the state.
